Kampala, Uganda — Electrify Africa, an innovative project focused on expanding electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, officially launched today in Kampala, marking a key milestone for Uganda’s green transportation future. The event, attended by officials from the STI Secretariat and Uganda Emobility, signals a bold step toward sustainable mobility in the region.

The initiative, spearheaded by Simba Innovative Limited, aims to transform Uganda’s transportation landscape by establishing a robust network of EV charging stations. What sets Electrify Africa apart is its community-based model, which enables local businesses and individuals to invest in and co-own charging infrastructure, creating economic opportunities and fostering a sense of local ownership.

“Electrify Africa is about more than just installing chargers—it’s about empowering communities and driving sustainable change,” said a representative from Simba Innovative Limited. “By making electric mobility accessible and economically beneficial, we are not only reducing carbon footprints but also supporting local economic growth.”

The initiative’s goal is to establish an extensive network of EV chargers across both urban and rural Uganda, ensuring the infrastructure is accessible and affordable. Electrify Africa provides flexible ownership models, allowing local entrepreneurs to invest in the chargers, and offers subsidies to early adopters to lower upfront costs. Through these efforts, the initiative aims to make electric vehicles a more viable option for Ugandans, while also raising awareness about the environmental and economic benefits of EVs.

In addition to its focus on infrastructure, Electrify Africa is committed to community education. The project is hosting roadshows and public events, where attendees can learn more about EV technology and even view Tesla Model X vehicles. This outreach effort is designed to engage the public and encourage them to embrace electric mobility.

Looking ahead, Electrify Africa plans to expand its network beyond Uganda and into other African nations. The project also has ambitious plans to integrate renewable energy, with solar-powered charging stations set to be a key part of its long-term strategy. Furthermore, Electrify Africa is enhancing its user experience by developing a mobile app that will streamline payments and provide users with detailed usage data.

Simba Innovative Limited, the driving force behind Electrify Africa, is a Ugandan technology company focused on sustainable energy and electric mobility solutions. The company aims to lead the charge toward a greener, more innovative future across Africa.
