 FULL LIST: Health Service Commission Shortlists Applicants for Key Roles

The Health Service Commission has released an extensive and comprehensive list of shortlisted candidates for a wide array of positions, stemming from External Advert No. 1 of April 2025. This significant recruitment initiative aims to fill critical vacancies and enhance the capacity of the national healthcare system across various specialized and general departments.

The substantial shortlist encompasses thousands of applicants vying for over 1,400 positions, ranging from highly specialized senior consultant roles to essential medical and allied health officer positions. This detailed roster reflects the Commission’s broad effort to strengthen healthcare delivery nationwide.

Among the prominent specialists who have advanced in the process are Dr. Asiimwe Ian Shane, shortlisted for Senior Consultant in General Surgery, and Dr. Charles Balungi, a candidate for Senior Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. In the vital area of Paediatrics and Child Health, the shortlist includes distinguished professionals such as Dr. Geoffrey Ofumbi Oburu, Dr. Mary Munyagwa, and Dr. Venice Omona.

Key leadership and administrative roles also feature prominently on the list. Dr. Catherine Maiteki-sebuguzi has been shortlisted for Assistant Commissioner (Tuberculosis and Leprosy), alongside Hope Rukundo for Assistant Commissioner (Clinical Nursing), and Jane Frances Acam for Assistant Commissioner (Midwifery Services). These strategic appointments are crucial for guiding public health initiatives and service delivery.

The recruitment drive further includes a considerable number of Medical Officer Special Grade positions across numerous disciplines. This encompasses specialists in Anaesthesia, with Dr. Jacob Gerald Nawezo among the shortlisted; Dermatology, featuring candidates like Dr. Hayidar Lubwama and Dr. Fiona Namutebi; and a vast number of medical professionals for Internal Medicine, Paediatrics and Child Health, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Emergency Medicine, and Psychiatry, underscoring a concerted effort to fortify specialized medical care.

Beyond direct patient care, the shortlist extends to critical support and regulatory functions within the health sector. Dr. Mubangizi Gilvas is among those considered for Senior Dental Surgeon. Other essential categories include Senior Entomologist, Senior Environmental Health Officer, Senior Epidemiologist, Senior Health Training Officer, Senior Pharmacist, Senior Nursing Officer, and Senior Clinical Officer. Additionally, candidates have been identified for roles such as Principal Medical Officer and Principal Public Health Veterinary Officer.

The release of this extensive shortlist signifies a major step by the Health Service Commission to reinforce the nation’s healthcare infrastructure with qualified professionals, ensuring improved access to and quality of medical services for all citizens.
