According to Odongo, a total of 797,444 candidates from 14,883 centers registered for the examination, marking a 6.4% increase from the previous year. This increase is attributed to the government’s efforts to promote education and increase access to schools.

The results also showed a notable increase in the number of female candidates, with 52.5% of the registered candidates being girls. This trend is consistent with the government’s efforts to promote girls’ education and empower women in Uganda.

The board also reported an increase in the number of special needs learners, with 3,328 candidates registered, indicating a 25.5% increase from 2023. This increase is attributed to the board’s efforts to promote inclusive education and provide support to learners with special needs.

Additionally, 71 candidates from Luzira Prison and 37 from Bara Prison sat for the examination. This initiative is part of the government’s efforts to promote education and rehabilitation among prison inmates.

Odongo noted that the examination was conducted smoothly, with minimal disruptions reported across the country. He attributed this success to the board’s efforts to improve the examination process and ensure the integrity of the results.

Candidates can access their results via SMS and online portals. The Ministry of Education and Sports also live-streamed the event on its official platforms, allowing the public to follow proceedings in real-time.

The release of the 2024 PLE results is a significant step forward for Uganda’s education sector, providing valuable insights into student performance and identifying areas for improvement.

The results will inform education policy and interventions, aiming to improve the quality of education and increase access to education for all. The government has pledged to continue investing in education, with a focus on improving infrastructure, increasing access to schools, and promoting inclusive education.

As the country moves forward, the results of the 2024 PLE will serve as a critical benchmark for measuring progress and identifying areas for improvement. With a focus on promoting education and empowering learners, Uganda is poised to make significant strides in improving its education sector.
