KIHIHI, Uganda — Police in Kanungu are investigating the death of a 35-year-old man who was lynched by a mob Friday afternoon after being suspected of stealing a motorcycle.
Emmy Busingye, a resident of Rukarara village in Kihembe parish, was attacked around 3 p.m. local time, said Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson.
According to Maate, boda boda riders in Rukarara village suspected Busingye of theft after he was seen with a motorcycle that had no license plates. Busingye was reportedly known to police due to a history of theft allegations. The riders converged, apprehended him, and then lynched him.
Police were notified and responded to the scene, which was processed and documented. Busingye’s body was taken to Kihihi Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination.
“Inquiries are underway to establish those involved in his death so that they are brought to book and answer charges accordingly,” Maate said.
