The official kit for the 2025 Tusker Lite Mt Rwenzori Marathon was unveiled on Wednesday in Luzira, marking the official countdown to one of the country’s premier race events, set for August 23rd in Kasese District.
This year’s edition comes with a unique twist— for the first time, the 42-kilometre elite marathon will begin at the Equator. Runners will experience the rare thrill of crossing hemispheres as they tackle a route known for its stunning scenery and physical challenge.
Framed by the awe-inspiring Rwenzori Mountains, the marathon route promises a rewarding blend of endurance and breathtaking views. Over the years, the event has grown into a major attraction for both athletes and adventure seekers, becoming a key fixture on Uganda’s sports tourism calendar.
Participants will run through some of the nation’s most iconic natural landscapes, including parts of Queen Elizabeth National Park and wide vistas of the Rwenzori ranges.
Organisers say the marathon is more than a race—it’s an immersive experience that champions wellness, environmental appreciation, and community pride.
Thousands of runners are expected to take part, ranging from elite athletes to enthusiastic amateurs and local residents.
Beyond the competition, the marathon continues to promote Kasese as a destination for sport, culture, and eco-tourism—spotlighting its natural beauty and growing appeal as a host for world-class outdoor events.
