KAMPALA— Mr. Moses Lubega Kyewalyanga has been nominated for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag for the Kyotera District Local Council Five (LC5) chairperson seat.
The nomination signals the ruling party’s initial steps toward the 2026 general elections.
Dr. Tanga Odoi, who chairs the NRM Electoral Commission, nominated Mr. Kyewalyanga at the party’s headquarters in Kampala on Tuesday, June 17
Mr. Kyewalyanga currently serves as the NRM chairperson for Nabigasa Sub-county in Kyotera District.
He brings a background in local leadership and community involvement to his candidacy.
Kyotera District, established by an act of parliament in 2015 and operational since July 1, 2017, was previously part of Rakai District.
The creation of the new district, comprising Kakuuto and Kyotera counties, aimed to improve public service delivery. While Kyotera town is the largest in the district, the administrative headquarters are located in Kasaali.
Mr. Kyewalyanga’s experience includes a term as a District Councilor representing Nabigasa Sub-county on the Rakai District Council (2001-2006), where he also served on the works and technical services committee.
His local government service also includes roles as Vice Chairman LCIII for Nabigasa Sub-county and as a councilor representing Nakatoogo parish within the same sub-county (1996-2011).
He also held the position of Youth Chairperson for Nabigasa Sub-county (1991-1996).
In the education sector, Kyewalyanga has chaired the School Management Committee for Nakasoga Primary School since 2015 and was a board member of St. Sebastian Senior Secondary School in Beteremu, Kyotera (2006-2011).
He has also chaired the Nakasoga Muslim Mission/Uganda Muslim Supreme Council since 2006.
Kyewalyanga’s educational background includes completion of the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) and Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) at Nakasoga Senior Secondary School, and Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) in 1986.
He attended Masaka Secondary School, as well as Nakasoga secondary and primary schools.
The NRM recently announced its schedule for upcoming party activities, outlining the path to the next general elections.
The nomination period for local government positions commenced in April 2025 and continue through June. The party’s roadmap also includes voter register displays, district conferences for leadership alignment, and internal elections for Special Interest Groups at various levels.
