Lugazi FC has officially completed the signing of versatile defender Dauson Mafumu from Express Football Club ahead of the 2025/26 season. The 22-year-old has penned a two-year deal, becoming the club’s first acquisition in the primary transfer window.
“I feel excited because I believe Lugazi FC is the right place for developing my career,” Mafumu told the club media after putting pen to paper. “The club has a strong vision, and I feel like I can grow here as a player and help the team achieve great things.”
Mafumu, who can operate as a left back, center back, and central midfielder, brings a blend of defensive solidity and attacking support to ‘The Leaders’.
“I’m strong both in attack and defense,” he added. “I’m good at delivering accurate crosses, making clean interceptions, and helping the team transition quickly from defense to attack. These abilities allow me to support the team in keeping shape, creating scoring chances, and stopping opponents effectively. I believe I can contribute to both sides of the game and help the team stay balanced and competitive.”
Mafumu joins Lugazi after three impactful seasons in the Uganda Premier League with Express FC, where he rose through the ranks from the junior team to become vice captain of the senior squad. His football journey began at Makindye Soccer Academy in the mid-2000s when he was just three years old, spending over a decade honing his skills.
In 2018, he moved to the Express FC Junior Team and scored nine goals in two seasons of the FUFA Juniors League — a notable feat for a defender. His consistent performances earned him a spot in the senior team in 2020, where he showcased leadership and tactical versatility.
He also played a pivotal role in Kibuli Secondary School’s triumphant campaign at the 2022 FEASSSA Games in Arusha, Tanzania, helping them clinch the boys’ football title.
