Mabirizi drags Deputy IGP Katsigazi to court over NUP Mobilization activities

A few hours after Police has suspended National Unity Platform’s country wide mobilization activities and openning up of new offices, city Lawyer Hassan Male Mabirizi under private prosecution has preffered Criminal charges against Deputy Inspector General of Police Maj Gen Tumusiime Katsigazi

The Charges which have been opened up at Nakawa Magistrates Court include Scandalous conduct by officers contrary to 145(1) & 145(2) of Uganda People’s Defence Forces Act, 2005 and Conduct prejudicial to good conduct and order

In his chargesheet which has been already received by the Court Registry, Mabirizi contends that Katsigazi a serving officer of Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) on Monday 13th September 2023 at Naguru, Nakawa Division, Kampala City, made, documented and publicly circulated Political Statemernts against National Unity Platform Political Party, a political party in opposition, and in favour of National Resistance Movement Political Party, aparty wielding political power and its Chairman who performs work of
President of The Republic of Uganda, which conduct was generally against
Public order, expectations and morality and which directiy or indirectly
affected other Ugandans.

About the second count, Male contends
Tumusiime a serving officer of Uganda People’s Defence Forces, on Monday 13th September 2023 at Naguru, Nakawa Division,Kampala City, you made documented and publicly circulated Political Statements against National Unity Platform Political Party, a political party in opposition, and in favour of National Resistance Movement Political Party, a party wielding political power and it’s Chairman who performs work of
President of The Republic of Uganda, an act which prejudice good order and
discipline of UPDF.

Police on Wednesday evening basing on the letter issued by Deputy IGP Maj Gen Tumusiime Katsigazi suspended on going NUP Mobilization campaigns on grounds that the party leaders had failed to work in line with agreed terms and conditions.

“While we completely support the right of individuals, groups and other
citizens to peacefully gather or assemble, and make their views on
matters of public policy, we have noticed that., in all areas where the
NUP mobilization activities have been carried out, there have been total breaches to the guidelines, thus causing public disorder, unnecessary traffic jams.” parts of the letter read

However Hon Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu the head of NUP has vowed not to respect the above letter and insisted that he will continue with his country wide mobilization activities.
