Madhvani Foundation launches new scholarship program for 2024-2025

KAMPALA — Racheal Iperu faced significant financial challenges that almost led her to drop out of university approximately two years before completing her course.

“I felt hopeless and struggled to concentrate because I knew my parents couldn’t afford to pay my tuition anymore. I was constantly worried about how I would manage. It was an incredibly difficult time for me,” she noted.

She recounted her narrative during the unveiling of the Muljibbhai Madhvani Foundation scholarships for Ugandan students for the academic year 2024-2025 at the headquarters of the Madhvani Group on Fifth Street in the Industrial Area, Kampala, on March 27, 2024.

Fortunately, in 2022, her worries were alleviated when she applied for the Muljibbhai Madhvani Foundation scholarships and was fortunate enough to be selected as one of the beneficiaries.

With the burden of tuition lifted, she was able to fully focus on her studies.

Earlier this year (2024), Iperu successfully graduated with a first-class degree in Software Engineering and was recognized as the top female student in her class.

A significant number of 2567 Ugandan students have successfully realized their aspirations through these scholarships designed specifically for those who have completed their initial year of study and postgraduates.

Among other beneficiaries is Charles Ebiru, who became a part of this program in 2018.

He had been facing financial challenges in funding his tuition, and had to balance his studies with employment.

But with the support from the scholarship scheme, Ebiru finally earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Agri-Business Management and currently holds a position at Equity Bank.

While launching the scholarships at the Madhvani Group Headquarters the foundation’s board chairman, Gerald Ssendawula emphasized the role of education in releasing the potential of individuals and foster societal transformation.

The event was also attended by other board members Gabriel Opio and Anthony Buteele all former politicians and ministers.

“Our scholarship program has been a beacon of hope to countless undergraduates and postgraduate students who possess the academic power but face financial constraints in pursuing their dreams,” he noted.

The initiative underscores the Foundation’s commitment to fostering education and empowering deserving individuals to realize their full potential.

“By investing in these scholarships, the Muljibbhai Madhvani Foundation aims to contribute to the development of Uganda by nurturing talented individuals who will become future leaders and professionals in their respective fields. This gesture reaffirms the group’s commitment to creating opportunities for those who are determined to excel but find themselves gulping with a burden of tuition fees,” he added.

He said the scholarship scheme is about investing in future leaders, innovators and change makers in society.

He lauded the Madhvani Group for their demonstration of generosity and patriotism.

“Even when you go out to Kakira, you find primary and secondary schools that have been put up,” he added.

Sendawula highlighted that the scholarship program is Madhvani’s method of expressing gratitude towards their customers and all Ugandans for their support.

He encouraged all deserving students to use the available chance to benefit from the scheme before it is too late.

All potential applicants are urged to access the Foundation’s website to review the eligibility requirements, fill the forms, and submit their applications in person at the Madhvani Group offices located on Fifth Street in the Industrial Area.
