World Press Freedom Day: Ugandan Journalists unveil program for 2024 Celebrations

KAMPALA-Uganda will join the rest of the world to celebrate the Annual World Press Freedom Day held annually on 3rd May, the program for the year has been released. This year celebrations will be held under a theme: “A Press for the Planet, Journalism in the face of Environmental Crisis”.

According to Rukundo Mathias , President Uganda Journalists Association (UJA), they have organized a series of activities in comemoration of this valuable day which happens once in a year.

 

“The activities include a foot ball gala whoch will be held on Sunday 5th May 2024, at City High Secondary School involving teams of various media houses as well as other organizations.”

 

The second event will be tree planting campaign led by UJA and partners who participated in planting of trees both within Kampala and other parts of the country.

 

“My Tree Initiative as part of the broader initiative to plant one million trees across Uganda by 2025, as a response to the prevailing problem of climate change that has adversely impacted agriculture and public health. It was launched during the 2021 WPFD celebrations.”

 

There will be an awards ceremony held in recognition of outstanding individuals and organizations who have made enormous contribution in improving media landscape in the country.

 

“It will be observed on Friday 3rd May 2024, WPFD. A joint press conference with all the Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) partners will be addressed in Kampala, shaping the gist of the day.”
