Makerere University announces new tuition fee waiver scholarships for 40 disadvantaged female students for the 2025-2026 academic year. Learn eligibility and apply by Aug. 8.

KAMPALA, Uganda — Makerere University has announced new scholarship opportunities for female students, offering a full waiver of tuition and functional fees for the 2025-2026 academic year. The scheme, managed by the university’s Gender Mainstreaming Directorate, aims to support 40 bright female students from genuinely disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds.

The scholarship program, approved by the Makerere University Council in December 2010, is designed to provide access to higher education for deserving students who might otherwise face financial barriers. With effect from the 2021-2022 academic year, 40 scholarships have been offered annually to eligible female students. All academic programs at both the Makerere University Main Campus and Makerere University Jinja Campus are eligible for this support.
