KAMPALA, UGANDA – MTN Uganda has announced the launch of the second cohort of its ACE Skilling Initiative, selecting 154 fellows from a pool of 789 applicants.
The program, launched in December 2022, aims to equip young university graduates, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and innovators with practical knowledge and skills to address community challenges using innovative ICT solutions.
With an investment of UGX 2.17 billion, the 12-month program will provide training in International Computer Driving License (ICDL), business skills, and technical skills.
“We are proud to welcome these talented individuals to the MTN ACE Program,” said Stephen Mutana, Chief Strategy and Stakeholder Officer at MTN MoMo. “We believe initiatives like this can drive meaningful change in Uganda’s economy.”
The program aligns with Uganda’s Digital Transformation Roadmap, National Development Plan III, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
MTN Uganda has collaborated with key partners, including the Ministry of ICT & National Guidance and Centenary Technology Services, to support youth-led startups and enhance employability through digital skills.
The initiative addresses Uganda’s pressing issue of youth unemployment, with over 75% of the population under 30 and a youth unemployment rate of 13.3%.
Last year, MTN Uganda accepted 280 fellows into the program, with 185 graduating across the three disciplines.
MTN Uganda’s commitment to empowering youth extends beyond the ACE Program, with platforms like the MTN Skills Academy offering digital skills training for digital jobs.
The selected fellows will commence their training in the coming weeks, receiving certificates upon successful completion.
