MTN MoMo visited the Somali Widows Community in Kisenyi to hand over 100 Ramadan hampers filled with essential supplies to support families during this sacred month.

As the holy month of Ramadan begins, MTN Uganda is reaffirming its commitment to the Muslim community by introducing special Ramadan bundles designed to keep customers connected during this sacred time of prayer, fasting, and reflection. In addition, MTN Uganda, through its loyalty program MTN Prestige and MTN MoMo, is giving back to less privileged Muslim communities across the country in the spirit of generosity and togetherness.

The special Ramadan bundles, available exclusively during the fasting period, are tailored to support customers as they observe their spiritual obligations. These affordable daily night bundles, valid between 11 PM and 7 AM, offer customers the flexibility to choose between voice-only, data-only, or a combination of both, ensuring seamless communication and access to essential digital services. Customers can easily activate these bundles via 10030#, myMTN App, and MoMo App.

Beyond connectivity, MTN Uganda is extending a helping hand to Muslim communities in need through various Ramadan handover initiatives. MTN Prestige is spearheading a campaign to support high-value Muslim customers while also engaging them in charitable acts within selected less privileged communities. Through these efforts, MTN Prestige is rewarding a group of its Muslim customers with Ramadan gift hampers and collaborating with them in onsite activations to distribute relief items to the needy.

MTN MoMo is also leading a nationwide initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable Muslim communities. This year’s alms handover campaign spans multiple regions, reaching refugee settlements, prisons, and widow communities across Uganda. Dry food rations and essential items will be distributed in key locations, ensuring that those in need receive support to sustain them through the fasting period.

Together, our Sadaqah is unstoppable. MTN Prestige and MTN MoMo will be extending their support to diverse Muslim communities, including the Red Hamisha Masanafu community, Kibibi widows, Sudanese community in Kawempe, Muslim communities at refugee reception centres in Elegu and Kiryadongo, Murchison Bay and Luzira women’s prisons, Somali widows, and the Iganga Muslim widow community. By fostering inclusivity and promoting acts of charity, MTN aims to ensure that the blessings of Ramadan reach far and wide, reinforcing the belief that collective giving strengthens communities.

At the handover, Fatumah Kavuma, MTN MoMo Manager International Remittances, emphasized the importance of the Somali and other foreign communities to the MTN MoMo International Money Transfer business. “These communities are at the heart of our operations, having chosen MTN MoMo as their preferred channel to receive remittances from loved ones abroad and to send funds to fulfill their family and business needs,” Kavuma said.

She added, “This month of Ramadan, we are excited to unveil our Ramadan campaign, where lucky winners will be rewarded with fully paid trips to Mecca and Ramadan & Eid shopping vouchers worth UGX 100 million.”

Speaking about the Ramadan campaign, Mackinon Kabarole, MTN Uganda’s Acting Chief Marketing Officer, highlighted the company’s dedication to fostering inclusivity and supporting the communities it serves.

“Ramadan is a time of faith, sacrifice, and unity. At MTN Uganda, we believe in standing with our customers during these sacred moments by offering affordable communication solutions and extending a helping hand to the most vulnerable. Through the Ramadan bundles and our community initiatives, we reaffirm our commitment to being an enabler of connectivity and social impact,” Kabarole said.

Richard Yego, Chief Executive Officer at MTN MoMo, underscored the importance of giving back during this period, emphasizing the role of collective responsibility.

“As we observe this holy month, we recognize the importance of supporting those in need. MTN MoMo is proud to contribute to the well-being of the Muslim community through our Ramadan handovers, ensuring that more families have access to essential supplies during this time of spiritual devotion,” Yego said.
