Mufti Appoints Sheikh Abdurahman Afan Wakate as Kaliro District Kadhi

KAMPALA– His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, officially presented a letter to Sheikh Abdurahman Afan Wakate, appointing him as the Kadhi of Kaliro Muslim District. The appointment took place during a brief function coinciding with the UMSC management committee meeting, held on Thursday, November 16th, 2023, in his office.

During the ceremony, Mufti Mubaje explained that this appointment was a result of resolutions reached during the recently concluded Majilis Ulama – the College of Eminent Sheikhs Meeting, held at the UMSC headquarters in Old Kampala.

He elaborated, stating, “Following the nomination exercise conducted by the UMSC Electoral Commission, three candidates were selected by the Kaliro Muslim District Council in conjunction with Kaliro District College of Sheikhs. These candidates underwent rigorous scrutiny, and Sheikh Wakate successfully met the requirements outlined in the UMSC Constitution, leading to his appointment.”

To ensure harmony among the Muslim faithful in Kaliro Muslim District, it was also decided to appoint Sheikh Adinan Muhammad Isabirye who was in the Acting position was appointed as the Deputy with immediate effect. Sheikh Mubaje made this announcement while handing the appointment letter to Sheikh Wakate, in the presence of Sheikh Isabirye and the entire management committee.

Upon receiving their appointments, both Sheikh Abdurahman Afan Wakate and Sheikh Adinan Muhammad Isabirye pledged to serve with dedication, commitment, and in unity as emphasized in the Holy Quran, the sayings of Prophet Muhammad PBUH, and the UMSC Constitution.

Present at the event were their Eminencies Sheikh Abdullah Ibrahim Ssemambo Tamusuza, the Deputy Mufti, Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa, the 2nd Deputy Mufti, Hon Hadji Abbas Sekyanzi Muluubya, the UMSC Secretary-General, Hon Counsel Haj Muhammad Ali Aluma, the Acting Deputy Secretary-General in charge of Finance, and various departmental heads and Hon. Were Abubaker Wadangho, the Acting Chairman, UMSC Electoral Commission.
