ENTEBBE, Uganda — The Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services (UIBFS) and Nkumba University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on professional development for students and practitioners in Uganda’s financial sector.
The agreement was signed Tuesday at Nkumba University by Prof. Jude T. Lubega, the university’s vice chancellor, and Goretti Masadde, CEO of UIBFS.
The partnership will focus on four key areas:
- Joint training to prepare students for the job market.
- Applied research.
- Community engagement to promote financial inclusion.
- Grant identification and program publicity.
A key part of the collaboration will be the introduction of a Foundation Certificate in Banking and Finance, along with career guidance and internship placements for Nkumba University students in finance and accounting programs.
Masadde said the agreement reflects UIBFS’s commitment to preparing the next generation of professionals.
“By working with Nkumba University, we are creating pathways for students to gain practical skills, industry exposure, and professional grounding that will make them competitive in the workspace,” she said.
Masadde added that the partnership will help meet the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development’s goal of a tenfold increase in the country’s GDP by ensuring a well-trained workforce that is not only ready for jobs but also able to create them.
Lubega said the partnership will equip students with the skills needed for the workplace.
“It is important that universities work with professional bodies like UIBFS to ensure our graduates are not only academically excellent but also industry ready,” he said.
