The 2023 Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) results released yesterday by the education ministry indicate that integrated science was the best-performed subject (91%).

The results under the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) also indicate that science was followed by English language (89.5%) and Social studies (88%). UNEB is mandated to conduct and manage examinations in Uganda for the end of the educational cycle at Primary and Secondary school levels.

According to UNEB secretary Dan Odongo, boys were better than girls in SST, Mathematics, and Science, while the girls beat the boys in English.

A total of 640,000 candidates passed the exams with different grades out of 736,931 candidates, according to the results.

Odongo made the revelations while briefing education minister Mrs Janet Museveni at State House, Nakasero in Kampala, yesterday.

Physically challenged

Regarding the physically handicapped pupils, Odongo said they registered 24 candidates, 44 blind, 70 partially blind and 270 candidates were deaf and the majority of them passed.
