Kampala, Uganda – PostBank has reassured its customers that their deposits are safe and secure, following the discovery of fake notes worth Shs500 million in the vault of its Mbale branch.
In a statement, PostBank’s head of marketing and communications, Priscilla Akora, emphasized that the bank’s security measures are robust and that the incident is being thoroughly investigated.
“We want to assure our customers that their deposits are safe and secure. We have robust security measures in place to prevent such incidents, and we are working closely with the police to investigate this matter,” Akora said.
Akora added that the bank has handed over some of its officers to aid with the investigation, as part of its commitment to transparency and accountability.
“We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of security and integrity, and we will do everything in our power to prevent such incidents from happening in the future,” Akora said.
PostBank has urged its customers to remain calm and assured them that their deposits are safe and secure.

Background:
The discovery of the fake notes was made on November 11, when a bank staff member retrieved some of the fake notes from the vault and brought them to the counter, where their authenticity was questioned. Preliminary investigations suggest that the fake notes were in bundles of Shs50,000 notes, with genuine notes covering the fake ones.
The incident has sparked an investigation by the police, with several bank officials arrested and charged in connection with the incident.
The former operations manager of the Mbale branch is among those arrested and charged.
