KAMPALA, Uganda — The Rotary Club of Uptown Kampala celebrated its official charter today with a grand Charter Night Celebration at Canary Gardens, Kyanja. The event marked Rotary International’s formal recognition of the club.
The celebration drew Rotarians, community leaders, business professionals and partners from across the region to mark the club’s founding, honor its charter members and reaffirm its commitment to “service above self.”
“This is a historic moment for our club and our community,” said Immaculate Nakyeyune, Charter President of the Rotary Club of Uptown Kampala. “Our charter marks the beginning of a shared journey to create lasting change — locally and globally.”
The event included a ceremonial handover of the charter certificate by District Governor Anne Nkutu, the pinning of charter members and an outline of the club’s inaugural projects. The new club plans to focus on Rotary International’s key areas, including fighting diseases, education, environmental protection, and water and sanitation. Disease prevention will be its signature project.
Rotary International is a global network of more than 1.4 million volunteers who address humanitarian challenges and strengthen communities. The chartering of the Rotary Club of Uptown Kampala aligns with this mission to bring together people dedicated to service.
The Rotary Club of Uptown Kampala was officially chartered in February 2025 and currently has nearly 30 charter members. Its mother club is the Rotary Club of Kampala South.
