KAMPALA– A day after High Court has declared Kawempe North Constituency Parliamentary seat vacant following the nullification of the recent Electoral process, National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaning candidate Faridah Nambi has welcomed the court decision as she distanced herself from security brutality.

“The lawyers sat with the top party officials from the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) on 14th this month and agreed to go to court. I also sat with my agents and other individuals who informed me that there were substantial grounds to lead to nullification of Kawempe by election.” Remarked Faridah Nambi while addressing journalists in Kampala on Tuesday.
She thanked Justice Bernard Namanya (the trial judge) for having ruled in what she referred to as fair and just manner.
“At the beginning, my opponent said that this case had no substantial grounds to warrant nullification of election results. So after that court decision I had that Hon.Nalukoola will be appealing against the results, it’s his right , but according to the little knowledge I have about court cases, even if he insists up to Supreme Court, he won’t succeed.”
Nambi who described herself as a peaceful person, went ahead to distance her self from actions of various security agencies which participated in violence through our the whole Kawempe by election process.
She added that she didn’t send the army to attack Kawempe people including journalists ….and whoever wants to support her should do it peacefully.
“I condemn the security brutality on the people of Kawempe.I Nambi, I don’t have any Security organ that I ordered to come to Kawempe, and none came under my name. When security attack people during election period, does it increase my popularity or reduce on my votes after a painful campaigning process ? ” asked Nambi
She went further and vowed to appeal on that matter of costs because she has incurred a lot in legal fees during this petition.
Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya in 2021 was elected the member of Parliament for Kawempe North Constituency. Early this year after a long illness, Ssegirinya passed on and the law requires Electoral Commission to organize fresh elections to replace the deceased in the shortest time possible.
On the 13th March 2025, the Electoral Commission conducted the Parliamentary by-election for the Directly Elected Member of Parliament for Kawempe Division where over six members contested and Nalukoola was declared the winner of the election with 17,939 votes , followed by Faridah Nambi Kigongo with 9,058 votes.
Being dissatisfied with the results, Nambi petitioned High court rising several grounds which resulted into the above decision.
