Peace Rugambwa, the Chairperson Nyekunjire group south western Uganda signing on President Museveni’s banner.

In a press briefing held on Wednesday in Kampala, these revealed that they have not been coerced or forced by anybody to come up with that declaration, but they based on the good things which Museveni has done for this country interms of development and stability.

“Currently we have many good leaders in this country, but we don’t see anybody who can fit in the shoes of President Museveni.” Remarked Peace Rugambwa, the Chairperson Nyekunjire group south western Uganda

She also pointed out that they came up with this initiative as one of the means of supporting government in its poverty alleviation plan with In Western Uganda.

“To ensure that farmers put value in the items received from government, they have to subscribe to the group through payment of shillings 12000 (membership fee). We put more emphasis on onion farming because its one of those crops that do better in the region and can generate some good money to the farmer with a short period of time.”

“One Kilogram of Onions which can cover a full acre of land , costs between 750,000-800,000 shillings. These onions can be harvested within four months and acre can provide you with at least 100 bags with each costing 500,000 shillings currently on the market.”

Rugambwa says that she started small with the little she had (from personal income) from which she uplifted many of the people’s standards of living, she later on impressed the government through President Museveni who committed more funds to the project.

“Ever since the President came on board to support our people, many of the NRM leaders in the region became insecure and instead started sabotaging all our efforts. Many might be having fears that am going to stand against them in the forthcoming general elections, but I want to assure them that I don’t have the required education requirements, am working for the good of the people and our party.”

Peace Rugambwa broke into tears as he narrated the story to journalists.

She therefore advised all the leaders who may be having descending views with her , to join efforts and improve people’s well being and NRM’s popularity in the region instead of engaging in petty fights and starting up parallel groups which will not take them anywhere.

The press briefing was attended by the group’s top leaders from the five districts of Ntungamo, Kisoro, Rukungiri, Kabale, Rubanda, Rukiga district.

Lt Gen Jim Muhwezi, the Minister for security , also one of the top NRM leaders in the region when contacted about the above allegations noted that “She is not so special, any body can start a program and we support it and President support it. She should just count her self lucky.
