KAMPALA, Uganda — Stanbic Bank Uganda has launched “Kya Double with Supa Dupa,” a new banking initiative featuring end-to-end digital account opening for both private and business customers. The campaign, announced Thursday, aims to provide instant rewards and seamless financial solutions, making banking faster, easier and more rewarding.
Israel Arinaitwe, Stanbic’s Head of Personal Banking, said at the launch that “Kya Double with Supa Dupa” directly addresses extensive customer feedback, which highlighted the need for speed, simplicity and tangible rewards for regular depositors.
Customers can now open a fully operational Stanbic Bank account digitally in under five minutes, completely paperless and free of charge. The process is accessible via the Stanbic app, mobile banking or online banking, allowing customers to immediately send, receive or deposit money upon registration.
Recognizing the demand for quick credit, Stanbic has also enhanced its loan offerings. Customers can secure instant advances of up to 5 million Ugandan shillings ($1,300) at any time. Larger digital loans, up to 250 million shillings ($65,000), can be approved in under two minutes, subject to conditions.
Stanbic Unveils Digital Solutions for Sole Proprietors
During the same event, Stanbic introduced the Pamoja Account portfolio, a fully digital solution designed for single-member companies and sole proprietors. This initiative provides owners with access to exclusive banking services at no cost.
Aaron Akampa, Head of Enterprise Banking, said the Pamoja account was developed in response to customer feedback and government reports indicating that the majority of local businesses fall into the sole proprietorship category. Many of these businesses struggle with formalization and building a strong credit profile to qualify for loans.
Akampa explained that the Pamoja account targets small businesses, particularly those in Kampala’s downtown area and other regions, removing the need for a business partner to meet banking requirements.
“Our Pamoja account offers unique benefits tailored for this segment,” Akampa said. “It’s free to open, with an average balance requirement of just 2 million Ugandan shillings; meaning no charges whatsoever. You can borrow up to 200 million Ugandan shillings, thus opening new horizons for growth. It’s entirely digital, providing a seamless experience for small businesses to operate more professionally and efficiently.”
Sonia Karamagi, Head of Customer Experience, said the “Kya Double with Supa Dupa” campaign will also reward active customers monthly. Every transaction, including savings, deposits and bill payments, earns customers entries into weekly draws, making them eligible to double their deposit amounts directly into their accounts.
Karamagi encouraged Ugandans to join Stanbic, highlighting the bank’s more than 100-year heritage, its market leadership and its nationwide footprint of 83 branches and over 7,000 agent bankers, all aimed at ensuring a positive customer experience.
