Commuters are facing a travel nightmare after a catastrophic railway embankment failure at Namanve brought the Kampala-Mukono train route to a screeching halt.
The Uganda Railways Corporation (URC) has confirmed that services will remain suspended from April 6 to April 14, 2025, leaving thousands of passengers stranded and scrambling for alternative transport.
The devastating damage to the railway track has sparked widespread disruption, with officials warning that the repair work will take nearly a week to complete.
“We’re working around the clock to restore the affected infrastructure, but it’s a complex and time-consuming process,” a URC spokesperson admitted.
The corporation has issued a groveling apology, promising to have services back up and running by April 14, 2025. But for now, commuters are facing a long and arduous journey.
“We understand the inconvenience this has caused, and we appreciate your patience and understanding during this challenging time,” the URC said.
