STOCKHOLM, Sweden — Truecaller, a global platform for verifying contacts and blocking unwanted calls, announced Friday it has surpassed 100 million monthly active users in the Middle East and Africa.
The milestone represents a 19% year-over-year growth in the region, which has seen a surge in smartphone and mobile data adoption.
“We’re really happy that we’re able to solve communication problems for individuals and businesses in that region,” said Rishit Jhunjhunwala, CEO of Truecaller. “MEA, like India and many other markets, are mobile-first markets with your mobile number being the primary identifier and Truecaller has always grown organically in such markets.”
Jhunjhunwala added that the company is strengthening its partnerships and organization in the region, which he believes is “poised for significant growth for many years ahead.”
The largest markets for Truecaller in the Middle East and Africa include Egypt, Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Algeria, Ghana and Jordan. In these countries, the app is typically used on 20% to 45% of connected smartphones.
