KAMPALA, Uganda — The European Union has launched an €8 million (UGX 33 billion) project to promote sustainable economic growth, boost trade and investment, and create green jobs in Uganda.
The four-year Sustainable Business for Uganda (SB4U) 2.0 – Trade and Investment Development project, implemented by the International Trade Centre (ITC), aims to enhance Uganda’s regional and global competitiveness.
The project will focus on the tourism, logistics and grains sectors, strengthening trade and investment ties with the EU and supporting Uganda’s efforts to leverage its tariff-free access to the EU market.
Uganda’s Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Francis Mwebesa, said the project aligns with the government’s goals to increase household incomes, monetize the economy and promote sustainable socio-economic transformation.
The EU’s Team Leader in Uganda, Sanne Willems, said the project will strengthen Uganda’s trade and investment profile and bring high-value products closer to the EU market.
ITC Executive Director Pamela Coke-Hamilton said the project will promote sustainability, digital connectivity and job creation, enabling small businesses in Uganda to scale up their operations, export and create jobs.
