
KAMPALA, Uganda — Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gen. Abubakhar Jeje Odongo, met with Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Anh Tuan, today to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. The two sides focused on enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture and multilateral diplomacy.
The meeting, which included H.E. Vu Than Huyen, Vietnam’s ambassador-designate to Uganda, served to build on the momentum from the historic state visit of Uganda’s president to Vietnam in November 2022.
Vietnam extended an invitation to Uganda to participate in the upcoming signing of the U.N. “Hanoi Convention” against cybercrime. It also requested Uganda’s support for its candidacy in various international forums.
Uganda welcomed Vietnam’s proposals on joint ventures and pending cooperation agreements, particularly those related to the agricultural and fisheries sectors.
Odongo reiterated Uganda’s commitment to advancing shared values and mutual aspirations, highlighting the strong partnership within the Non-Aligned Movement. Both sides agreed to maintain close engagement through diplomatic channels to follow up on the agreed-upon areas of cooperation.
