
KAMPALA, Uganda — Uganda’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (International Affairs), Okello Oryem, met with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Country Representative Inoue Yoichi on Friday. The meeting, held at the Ministry’s headquarters, focused on strengthening the partnership between Uganda and Japan through JICA’s development programs.
Inoue provided an overview of JICA’s ongoing support in Uganda, noting the successful completion of major infrastructure projects like the Karuma Bridge as evidence of strong cooperation. He expressed JICA’s commitment to expanding its presence by undertaking more development projects in key sectors.
Specifically, Inoue highlighted current initiatives in Yumbe District in the West Nile region, which focus on improving livelihoods, horticulture, and rice cultivation. These projects aim to enhance food security, income generation, and resilience in both the West Nile and Northern regions of Uganda.
Oryem welcomed JICA’s continued involvement in Uganda’s development agenda and commended the Japanese government for its consistent support. He affirmed Uganda’s readiness to collaborate closely with JICA to identify priority areas that align with national development goals, particularly in agriculture, infrastructure, and community development.
The meeting concluded with both parties expressing appreciation for the strong bilateral relationship and a shared commitment to deepening cooperation for the benefit of Ugandans.
