ALGIERS, ALGERIA — Uganda is leveraging its participation at the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025) to promote exports and attract foreign investment, emphasizing its role in continental trade integration. The event, held from Sept. 4-10 in Algeria, features a Ugandan delegation led by high-ranking government officials.

The Uganda Free Zones and Export Promotions Authority (UFZEPA), in collaboration with the Embassy of Uganda in Algeria, is spearheading the country’s presence. The Ugandan delegation is led by Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development Matia Kasaija. He is accompanied by Minister of State for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives (Cooperatives) Frederick Ngobi Gume and Uganda’s Ambassador to Algeria John Chrysostom Alintuma Nsambu.

“Uganda’s presence at this Trade Fair is about more than exhibiting our products. It is about showcasing Uganda as a land of opportunity,” Kasaija said. “We are here to promote our exports, attract investment, and build new trade partnerships.”

The ministers and ambassador highlighted a unified political and diplomatic effort to strengthen Uganda’s economic position. Minister Gume underscored the importance of cooperatives, stating the fair “is opening new doors for our farmers, traders, and small businesses to access wider markets.”

Ambassador Nsambu echoed this sentiment, calling the event “an important platform to strengthen Uganda’s trade and investment ties not only with Algeria but with the entire continent.”

The Ugandan exhibition features agro-processed goods, crafts, and manufactured products, with a focus on value addition. UFZEPA is also using the event to promote Uganda’s Free Zones as key locations for industrialization and export-driven growth.

Officials from UFZEPA and the embassy are holding meetings with potential investors and buyers, positioning Uganda as a competitive participant under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) framework.
