KAMPALA – Makerere University has been ranked the tenth best institution in Africa in the latest 2020 World University Rankings by the according to the July 2020 Webometrics ranking, the largest academic ranking of higher education institutions in the world.
According to the rankings released early late this month, Makerere is the second beat, East Africa, after the University of Nairobi.
The July rankings have also placed Mbarara University of Science and Technology the Second Best University in Uganda and 76th in Africa while Kampala International University who now ranks third-best in Uganda has been placed in the 109th position.
Last month, another university ranking scheme, UniRank, an international higher education directory, and search engine had place Makerere University in position 20 in Africa, a rank scale, which was largely attributed, to increasing strikes at the Ivory Tower.
The rankings consider research publications, education, and general performance of the institution. However, with strikes waning at the university, officials say, Makerere is now eyeing the first slot in Africa, in terms of research and education.
