KAMPALA, UGANDA – H.E. Mourad Amokrane, Ambassador-Designate of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to Uganda, presented copies of his Letters of Credence to Hon. John Mulimba, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in charge of Regional Affairs, at a formal ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, July 23.
The presentation of credentials marks the official beginning of Ambassador Amokrane’s tenure in Uganda and underscores the strong diplomatic ties between the two nations. The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as representatives from the Algerian Embassy in Uganda.

During the ceremony, Minister Mulimba welcomed Ambassador Amokrane and expressed Uganda’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, particularly in areas such as science, technology transfer, and value addition in coffee trade. He highlighted the mutual respect and cooperation that characterize the relationship between the two countries and underscored Uganda’s readiness to explore new avenues of collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
Ambassador Amokrane conveyed greetings from the Algerian President and emphasized the importance of continued economic and diplomatic cooperation between the two countries. He noted that diplomats and business persons from Algeria no longer require visas to enter Uganda and called for increased cooperation in oil and gas, as well as agricultural value chain development.
The bilateral relations between Algeria and Uganda have been growing steadily, with trade volumes increasing significantly over the past few years. In 2022, Uganda exported goods worth $1.3 million to Algeria, primarily coffee, tea, and spices, while Algeria exported goods worth $10.2 million to Uganda, mainly petroleum products, fertilizers, and pharmaceuticals.
Minister Mulimba assured Ambassador Amokrane of the Ministry’s full support during his tenure and expressed optimism that his appointment would usher in a new chapter of robust and dynamic relations between Algeria and Uganda. He highlighted the potential for increased trade and investment between the two countries, particularly in areas such as energy, agriculture, and infrastructure development.
The ceremony marked a significant step in fortifying the ties between Algeria and Uganda, and paves the way for increased cooperation and collaboration in various fields, including trade, investment, and cultural exchange.
