KAMPALA, Uganda – Absa Bank Uganda is set to showcase the potential of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from the country at the UK–Africa Business Forum in London, taking place Friday, Sept. 12, 2025.
The bank’s delegation, which includes members of its Absa Business Club, will attend the annual event to explore opportunities for trade, investment, and partnerships between African businesses and the United Kingdom.
“We are pleased to unlock growth opportunities for our customers through this forum, which enables entrepreneurs to explore markets beyond our borders,” said David Wandera, Absa Bank Uganda’s Managing Director. “Platforms like these are vital for knowledge exchange, identifying prospects, and gaining fresh insights to scale their businesses.”
According to data from the UK Department for Business and Trade, trade between the two countries reached £606 million (about $760 million) as of June 2024. The forum is a timely opportunity to address the trade imbalance, with Uganda exporting £123 million in goods while importing £483 million.

Moses Rutahigwa, Absa’s Retail and Business Banking Director, said the bank has developed tailor-made financing solutions for SMEs to help them access international markets. He also noted that the bank will launch its Diaspora Banking service at the forum to help connect Ugandans living abroad with business opportunities back home.
During the event, Irene Mutyaba, Absa Bank Uganda’s Corporate Banking Director, will serve as a panelist to discuss how finance can drive inclusive growth. The delegation also plans to engage in meetings with multinational corporations and officials from the British Chambers of Commerce.
In a collaboration with the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA), the bank’s team will also facilitate account openings for Ugandans in the UK, making it easier for them to access financial services.
