Kololo, Uganda– The Uganda Law Society (ULS), will next week on 17th September 2025, hold it’s General Meeting at Imperial Royale Hotel.

According to the Notice, issued by Asiimwe Anthony, the Vice President of ULS on Wednesday 10th September 2025, the general meeting which is expected to handle nineteen key issues , has been summoned in accordance with Section 16(1) of Uganda Law Society Act cap 305.
“Pursuant to Section 16(1) of the Uganda Law Society Act, Cap 305, the Uganda Law Society Council hereby issues this notice to notify the Society of the following NINE (9) member requisitions for consideration at the General Meeting to be held on Wednesday, 17 September 2025 at Imperial Royale Hotel at 2:30 p.m.”
That the Agenda for the meeting will include; To consider and vote on proposed resolutions arising from several requisitions.
” A requisition by Ssali Babu and other members for, inter alia, the censure and removal of Phillip Munaabi and Geoffrey Turyamusiima from the Council of the Uganda Law Society. A requisition by Lule Alexander and other members from the Greater Masaka Bar for, inter alia, the censure and removal of Geoffrey Turyamusiima from the Council of the Uganda Law Society.”
The meeting will also handle a requisition by Alfred Muyaaka and other members for the Uganda Law Society to organise elections for the position of Deputy Secretary General & Young Lawyers Representative to the East African Law Society Governing Council.
“A requisition by Nakamya Mary Gorretti Ssenyange and other members for the Uganda Law Society to address the appalling state of sanitation facilities in court precincts across Uganda; A requisition by Musinguzi Arnold Mugisha and other members of the Mbarara Bar for the Uganda Law Society to address critical maters affecting its governance, integrity and autonomy, including legal and extralegal actions orchestrated by a section of the ULS membership and aimed at undermining the Society ‘s independence and leadership, and to propose robust measures to counter these threats while upholding the rule of law.”
Others to be handled will be a requisition by Nabijewa Martha and other members for the Uganda Law Society, to conduct Council elections, appoint an auditor, withdraw all pending court cases, install the Elections Committee Chairperson in the role of Council; and issue a fresh nomination process for the two posts of Society Representative to the Judicial Service Commission.
It Should be remembered, that the election of Uganda Law Society Representatives to Judicial Service Commission were put on hold following the High Court order.
In December 2024, High Court judge by then, Musa Ssekaana halted Uganda Law Society’s extra ordinary meeting which had been scheduled to take place on December 17th the same year. The applications which resulted into this decision, were filed by Pheona wall and Hashim Mugisha
Since ULS and some of its members were not contented with the above decision, they pushed on the matter to court of Appeal where on several occasions, they have been advised to solve internal matters through holding meetings with the aggrieved parties.
