KAMPALA, UGANDA: Ugandan popular blogger, Ibrahim Tusubira commonly known as Isma Olaxess was Saturday evening gunned down by unknown assailants in Kyanja, an urban suburb in Kampala, Uganda’s capital.

At the time of his tragic shooting, Olaxess was the reigning President of the Uganda Bloggers Association having been elected in 2021. He was one of the biggest and most recognized music critic and online public affairs commentator in Uganda.

Police Saturday evening said they were investigating circumstances under which the NRM-leaning blogger was killed in an incident that just comes less than a week after Minister Charles Okello Engola was shot and killed by his personal bodyguard in the same area.

But who is Isma Olaxess?

Ibrahim Tusubira alais Isma Olaxess or Jajja Iculi was born in 1970 in Kampala in Central Uganda where he lived with his parents and grew up before he later moved overseas to Sweden in 2005 seeking for greener pastures.

Isma Olaxess started his blogging career in 2014 while still in Stockholm, Sweden but in 2015, he returned to Uganda in 2015 where he kept on his social media blogging role frequently catching the eye and attention of his followers.

He became popular in 2020 during the Presidential General Elections where he was one of the renowned political commentators and online updaters in Uganda.

 Olaxess was elected the President of the Uganda Bloggers Association (UBA) having defeated fellow Bloggers Ashburg Kato and Wisdom Kaye who competed for the position.

At the time of his death, Olaxess had a net worth of 113 million shillings with an annual revenue of over 24.6 million shillings by 2020 which was one of his highest-earning years.

As a blogger and president of the Uganda Bloggers’ Association, it is reported that Olaxess was earning over 7 million shillings from the association.

Olaxess died without giving birth to a child due to infertility although he was rumoured to be dating several ladies whom he kept a very low profile with.

The 59-year-old while attending church at Pastor Wilson Bugembe’s The Worship House in Nansana in February this year revealed that therapeutic treatment helped him deal with the stigma that had made it very difficult for him to open up about his long-time struggle and being unable to bear children;

“I have a lot of problems. I am the firstborn in my family. But when I went abroad (Sweden), I thought many of my dreams would be fulfilled. Yet it was the opposite. In Africa where we have grown up, taking tests to understand our medical conditions isn’t our culture,” Isma told the congregation earlier this year.

“One of the things this therapy helped me do was the boldness to openly talk about this issue. The medics told me I will never have a child yet all my body organs functioned properly. I almost lost my mind,” he added.

Apart from being a very proud house painter, Ibrahim Tusubira popularly known as Isma Olaxess aka Jajja Ichuli was also a renowned Ugandan blogger and critic who worked with big people in the country.

Olaxes had garnered a huge following on Facebook and TikTok, where he was revered for his insightful commentary on politics, entertainment, and social issues.

In 2021, Isma Olaxess was gifted by Hamis Kiggundu with a brand new Toyota Hiace commonly known as ‘Drone’ according to Routinebast because he was loyal to Ham, so he showed off ‘Drone’ UBK 213D parked at his rental and thanked the tycoon for saving him from Boda Bodas.
