RWAMPARA – The overlapping hills of Kitojo, with great sceneries and a long, rich historical traditions and perspectives gave rise to Rwampara District.

Curved out of Mbarara four years ago, Rwampara has a

152.000 population, 52% of whom are females. There are 28 parishes, 04 sub counties, 04 town councils, and 02 constituencies- Rwampara County represented by Amos Kankunda and Rwampara East County represented by Julius Tusiime Karuhanga. Molly Asiimwe Musiime is the woman MP.

Today, Kitojo Primary School in Kitojo Parish, Rwampara East hosted double celebrations- a fundraising drive to build teachers’ accommodation and, belatedly, the commemoration of Women’s day.

Vice President Jessica Alupo who was chief guest and was in awe of the area thanked the Woman Member of Parliament Molly Asiimwe Musiime for the invite to an area she called “the peak of the district”.  She congratulated the women upon celebrating the day and called upon all people to continuously rally around Unity, regardless of creed, gender, political affiliation age, or tribe. “If we are united, we accomplish all tasks including developing Rwampara”.

She urged men and women to work together, especially in promoting family and family values for the betterment of society.

Alupo thanked the people of Rwampara in particular and Ankole in general for maintaining Peace and pledged Government’s continued sustained efforts in securing people and their property. “Peace”, she said, is a bedrock of development.

She congratulated and asked parents to keep the culture of taking and keeping all children to school till the completion of the school cycle.

Alupo thanked the area MPs for raising the challenges of social services and pledged to add her voice to lobbying for more, better, and improved services saying Government policies are not cast in stone. “There are areas like these that need more critical intervention, and this will be considered”, said the VP. Rwampara water coverage is at a paltry 8% in an area that is three-quarters hilly. “This is so low, we will borrow ideas and improve the water facilities in Rwampara”, Alupo stressed.

The Vice President thanked the leaders for implementing the Parish Development Model and urged them to keep their integrity high, reiterating the voice of the President on the 2 year PDM repayment plan. “Let’s all take responsibility to make sure that women and youth are included in accessing the funds”.

The Vice President thanked the area WMP-Molly Asiimwe Musiime for her desire to help and change Rwampara by Developing Human relations among people that have diverse backgrounds.

The Vice President told people to always remember their history and the history of Uganda from years of turmoil to years of progress. This, she said, would help them make informed decisions in various ways. “All the women feel indebted to the President for uplifting the female voice through various deliberate efforts and developing their capacity. We have a female Vice President,  a Speaker, a Prime Minister, and several Ministers; and we use these positions to serve the people, as we do so, I encourage all women to participate in uplifting their homes, communities, and societies,” Alupo said.

The Vice President noted that President Museveni would continue his PDM tours across the country. “As he does this, please continue to engage in the anti-poverty drives”.

The Vice President used the occasion to rally support for President Museveni at the 2026 polls.

Alupo contributed UGX20M to the school fundraising drive and also pledged UGX15 M to the different women’s groups. She later auctioned a heifer with a starting price of UGX10m.

On her part, the Woman MP-Rwampara Molly Asiimwe Musiime said the VP’s presence was memorable. She thanked the President for appointing the Vice President who has become a voice of the voiceless, a voice of women through the leadership appointment. “Thank you for being a model, for being humble, and an approachable servant and we pray for you. We know how challenging the job is, but you are equal to the task”, said Asiimwe.

Asiimwe highlighted some of the challenges the area is facing, citing the lack of a referral hospital to handle emergency operations. She also highlighted a pledge made by the President to tarmac two major roads- RUTI – MWIZI – KABUYANDA and NYAKIRAGUJU – BUGAMBA- KITWE. “Rwampara is the heart of production with coffee, tea, matooke but roads are impassable, benefitting middlemen more than farmers. This can’t allow us to thrive, please help us remind the President to fulfill the pledge because we are capable of high export”, said Asimwe.

Nuwasima Judith from Kitojo Primary School P.5 recited a poem expressing the position of a rising woman. “African woman, you are just enough”.

Kitojo women groups used dance and drama to also highlight challenges but pledged active partnership through continuous production.

Various speakers pledged their support to President Museveni and NRM because of the different other interventions like the Emyooga programs which have a 65% recovery rate in Rwampara.

Leaders also noted that Government has made several interventions such as the 60km community access road program, electricity interventions for all the Parishes, and upgrade of health centres among others.

Amb Francis Butagira, former Speaker of Parliament of Uganda who doubled as MP-Rwampara, and several MPs attended the function and contributed to the fundraising drive.

Over UGX70M was collected.
