“This was a fantastic team effort,” said Buddu’s coach Simon Ddungu, praising his team’s determination. “We knew Kyaggwe would be tough opponents, but our players showed great resilience and determination.”

Kyaggwe, seeking their first Masaza Cup title, pushed Buddu to the limit but ultimately fell short.

Ali Balunywa, Director of Sales and Distribution at Airtel Uganda, praised both teams for their spirit and skill. “Such tournaments provide a platform for players to be scouted into other leagues,” he noted.

Balunywa also thanked the Kabaka for his presence and expressed Airtel’s commitment to supporting initiatives that unite and inspire youth.

“We congratulate both teams for the spirit and skill they brought to the game, Buddu for the win and Kyaggwe for the resilient fight,” he added.

Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, the Katikiro of Buganda, echoed the tournament’s purpose, emphasizing its role in fostering sportsmanship, unity, and community strength.

“This year’s tournament was a continued celebration of sportsmanship and unity, and we commend Buddu for their outstanding victory as well as Kyaggwe for their commendable performance,” Mayiga said.

“We are mostly grateful for the Kabaka’s presence, which reflects the importance of this tournament to our heritage and the strength it brings to Buganda. I also extend my appreciation to our partners like Airtel Uganda for their support.”

The Masaza Cup, introduced in 2004, features 18 teams from the Buganda Kingdom’s counties. This year’s tournament aimed to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS.

As the 20th Airtel Masaza Cup comes to a close, fans eagerly anticipate future editions, expecting more remarkable moments in Ugandan football.
