KAJJANSI, Uganda — Police are investigating a violent robbery Friday evening in Lweza Cell A, Ndejje Division, Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality, Wakiso District, where a suspect was neutralized after a confrontation with boda boda riders and residents.

According to Kajjansi Police Division, two unidentified men on a red Haojue motorcycle, registration number UGG 774A, targeted a parked Toyota Premio, registration number UBE 079Z, outside N & M Unisex Salon. One of the assailants, armed with an AK-47 rifle, shattered the car’s windows and stole two bags.

As the robbers fled, they were confronted by a boda boda rider, 27-year-old Tumwesigye Peter. During the encounter, Tumwesigye and 18-year-old Abdul Swabur were shot and injured.

Both men were taken to Mildmay Hospital for treatment. Swabur was later transferred to Mulago National Referral Hospital due to the severity of his injuries.

A coordinated response by boda boda riders, local residents, and police resulted in the pursuit and neutralization of one suspect.

Police at the scene recovered an AK-47 rifle, the red Haojue motorcycle, one cartridge, and a national identification card believed to belong to one of the attackers. Other recovered items included two mobile phones, a red bag used to conceal the firearm, and a black bag containing a ring spanner, reportedly stolen from the robbery victim.

“We commend the swift response of the community and boda boda riders. Further updates will follow as investigations continue,” said Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police.
