KAMPALA -The Chief Justice of Uganda , Alfonse Owiny Dollo (Board of Trustees Chairperson) for International University of East Africa (IUEA), has called upon all graduates to apply the knowledge and skills learnt , in Improving the welfare of their communities.
“Graduating today doesn’t solve any problem, but you need to find means of ensuring that community benefits from your education. Use the acquired knowledge to create opportunities for yourselves and other members of the society.” Remarked Dollo at IUEA’s 11th Graduation ceremony held on Thursday at their Campus in Kansanga.
He also noted that IUEA is a very unique institution in Uganda providing quality education not only for citizens , but with a students from more than 15 African countries.
“I don’t know any University in this country that offers the scholarships as IUEA does.” Dollo added
H.E John Shama Shaga, the Nigerian Ambassador to Uganda advised the graduates to be more innovative in whatever they are doing because they are going in a field dominated by modern Information Communication Technology (ICT) innovations.
“ AI (Artificial Intelligence) has dominated the major key sectors of employment and it’s continuing to revolve and to change the world.The landscape your going to , is different from that all other graduates used to find.”
He further added that the future requires innovative solutions and it’s these graduates who must come up with those solutions to have most problems solved.
The Chancellor, Ambassador Dr. Amina Mohamed, emphasized resilience and curiosity as core values for the graduates: “You are now part of a legacy of IUEA alumni who are creating change in their communities and countries. Continue to learn, seek knowledge, and lead the way for those who come after you.
She also asked the graduates to always refer to the values which have been instilled in them so that they may keep the legacy of IUEA wherever they are.
The Vice Chancellor, Dr. Emeka Akaezuwa, addressed the graduates with inspiring words: “Today is not the end of your journey but the beginning of a new chapter.” “Just because you are an engineering student does not mean you are limited to engineering. Explore boldly, lead creatively, and embrace collaboration across disciplines and borders.”
At the 11th Graduation, over 500 students were awarded degrees from various disciplines. Under a theme “Education in the Age of AI,” the ceremony highlighted the transformative power of Artificial intelligence in shaping the future of learning and work.
The event also celebrated entrepreneurial achievements, including the launch of Pionex innovation, founded by IUEA graduate Gael Ongoriko. Pionex is pioneering accessible, hands-on education through virtual laboratories.
