Fort Portal -The Court of Appeal is scheduled to conduct a three-day session dedicated to hearing civil appeals and related applications in Fort Portal.

The session, which will commence tomorrow, Tuesday, 24th June, and run until Thursday, 26th June 2025, is expected to handle a total of 28 civil appeals along with three applications arising from some of those appeals.
A panel of three Justices, led by the Deputy Chief Justice, Justice Dr. Flavian Zeija, will preside over the session. He will be joined by Justice Cheborion Barishaki and Lady Justice Esta Nambayo.
According to the cause list issued by the Court’s Registrar, HW Rukundo Allen Owembabazi, land-related cases constitute the majority of the matters to be handled during the session, with eighteen (18) appeals.
The Court will also hear four (4) appeals involving breaches of contract. The remaining cases relate to loan disputes, claims for damages, fraud, and other property-related matters, including issues around rights to property and letters of administration, among others.
This session is part of the Court of Appeal’s broader strategy to enhance access to justice and reduce case backlog.
In line with this goal, the Court began conducting upcountry sessions for civil appeals alongside criminal appeal sessions last year, bringing justice closer to the people and improving efficiency in the appellate process.
This will the fourth upcountry Civil Session the Court has held since the initiative began.
