DStv Rotary 5-a-side returns

KAMPALA — After a two-year absence due to the government Covid-19 restrictions, the DStv Rotary 5-a-side returns and will be played on Saturday 23rd July 2022 at Philip Omondi Stadium Lugogo.

The Rotary 5-a-side is a fundraising football tournament that brings together Rotary and Rotaract clubs from across the country as well as corporates to play and compete in 5-a-side football and raise funds for the various Rotary community service projects across the country.

Speaking at the launch of this year’s event, Ms. Natukunda Marion the President of the Rotary Club of Kiwatule who are the organisers of the event explained how that the tournament that was first played in 2015 has helped raise funds to serve the less advantaged in the community.

“We are very glad to have the return of the DStv Rotary 5-a-side football tournament. This is an annual tournament that we have been holding since 2015 and over that time we have raised over one hundred million shillings that has gone to serving the less advantaged in the community,” Ms. Natukunda said.

“We are very happy to be back and to have DStv continue its association with Rotary in Uganda through this project and we look forward to an exciting event,” Ms. Natukunda added.

Joan Semanda Kizza, the PR and Communications Manager, said that as DStv they are proud to be associated with Rotary and with all the good work that it is doing across the country.

“We are excited to again be a part of this tournament and to support the various community service projects that Rotary does across the country. As many of you may know, MultiChoice Uganda as a mother company and through its brands DStv and GOtv is committed to uplifting the communities in which we operate in through our programmes like the MultiChoice Talent Factory, as well as the year subscriptions we have been giving out to orphanges in Uganda through GOtv.”

Mr. Onyutta James, the Chairman of the 2022 edition of the Rotary 5-a-side announced that thanks to the support of the various companies that will be participating, a total of UGX thirty million will be awarded for Rotary community service projects.

“As you know, the DStv Rotary 5-a-side is a fundraising event for Rotary community service projects. I am pleased to announce that thanks to the support of the various companies that are participating, a total of thirty million shillings will be won as prize money which will directly go to supporting the implementation of community service projects,” Mr. Onyutta said.

The UGX 30 million prize money for the Rotary 5-a-side is broken down as below;

Rotary Category
Winner 5,000,000/- for a Rotary community service project

Runner-Up 4,000,000/- for a Rotary community service project

Third place 3,000,000/- for a Rotary community service project

Fourth place 2,000,000/- for a Rotary community service project

Quarter-Finalists 1,500,000/- for a Rotary community service project

Rotaract Category
Winner 2,500,000/- for a Rotary community service project

Runner-Up 1,500,000/- for a Rotary community service project

Third place 1,000,000/- for a Rotary community service project

Corporate Category
Winner 3,000,000/- for a Rotary community service project

Runner-Up 2,000,000/- for a Rotary community service project

Registration for the DStv Rotary 5-a-side is ongoing with the deadline being Thursday 14th July 2022 on a first come first serve basis.
