The event is the peak of family business discussions, that brings together people running family businesses, as well and advisors, to share, learn, network, and discuss opportunities.

The conference, hosted by Enjovu Family Business in partnership with I&M Bank Uganda, will run under the theme “Family Governance – Managing Conflict and Building Family Businesses to Last.”

I&M Bank, which itself started as a family business, aims to share its valuable experiences and insights, emphasizing the role of effective financial strategies in navigating the challenges faced by family enterprises.

“We understand the unique challenges and opportunities that family enterprises face. We are proud to partner with Enjovu Family Business for this conference, for it provides us the opportunity to share insights on effective governance and financial strategies. Together, we aim to equip family businesses with the tools they need to manage challenges and build sustainable legacies that will last for generations,” Annette Nakiyaga, the Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at I&M Bank Uganda said.

Elizabeth Kibuuka, the Director of Enjovu Family Business, noted that the conference will attract a distinguished gathering of renowned family business leaders, decision-makers, operators, and advisors.

“The Enjovu Family Business Conference is a great chance for family businesses to come together and talk about important issues like governance and conflict resolution. By sharing our stories and strategies, we hope to help families navigate their challenges and build strong, lasting legacies.”

To participate in the event, prospective attendees will be required to pay UGX 500,000 (five hundred thousand Ugandan Shillings) only.

The Speakers

The event will have a panel of like-minded peers, that will share experiences, and offer fresh perspectives capable of transforming family businesses.

The key note speaker will be Mr. Jayesh Shah, the Group Managing Director- Sumaria Group, Tanzania. Sumaria Group (T) Ltd is a family business that was established in the 1940s, in Kenya. It has operations in the East, Central and Southern African regions, as well as India, United Kingdom, UAE, and is headquartered in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The group has over 3000 employees across 7 companies, and has four broad areas of operations; manufacturing, agro-processing, beverage bottling, and real estate.

Mr. Emmanuel Katongole, a celebrated business captain, will be one of the speakers at the conference. He is a co-founder and Chairman of Quality Chemicals Limited, co-founder and Executive Chairman of Cipla Quality Chemicals Limited, and founder of Vero Food Industries.

Mr Katongole is also the Board Chairman of Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC), and Chairman of the TLG Capital’s Advisory Board. He has over 25 years of experience managing large organisations from an administrative and strategic perspective in numerous fields which include, among others, banking, manufacturing, and insurance.

CSL Sim Katende is the other panelist. Katende is a Partner at the Katende, Ssempebwa and Company Advocates (KATS), where he serves as the Head of KATS’ Banking & Finance, Corporate & Commercial, Energy, Oil & Gas, M&A, Capital Markets and TMT practices.

Katende is widely acknowledged and internationally recognized as one of the leading transactional lawyers in East Africa. He boasts of over 25 years’ multi-jurisdictional practice experience, having worked in New York, South Africa and Uganda.

The other speaker at the conference will be Dr. Nandawula Kanyerezi Mutema, the Managing Director of The Clinic, at The Mall.

The Clinic and diagnostic center was founded by Dr. Mutema and her husband- Dr. George Mutema, and Ivan Lubogo, making it a perfect example of a family business. The facility serves as a model for healthcare in Uganda.

Mr. Sam Ntulume, the Executive Director and Chief Operations Officer at I&M Bank Uganda, will also be part of the panel.

Ntulume boasts of vast experience in the financial services industry. He’s a strong business development professional, skilled in Business Planning, Analytical Skills, Banking, Accounting, and Credit Risk.

The Enjovu Family Business Conference will run from 8: 00 AM till 3: 00 PM, and is expected to address community and family business challenges, through shared knowledge and solutions.
