KAMPALA, UGANDA – The Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) Uganda Country Chapter on Saturday awarded bursaries to 15 vulnerable girls to support their secondary education.

The bursaries are part of FAWE’s 20k For Transformation campaign, launched on May 5, 2024, to raise funds for underprivileged girls at risk of dropping out due to socio-economic challenges.

According to FAWE Uganda Executive Director, Ms. Susan Opok Tumusime, the campaign has raised approximately UGX 16,000,000, exceeding its initial target.

“The 20k campaign is a response to the alarming number of girls dropping out of school due to financial constraints,” Ms. Tumusime said. “We are committed to supporting these girls to complete their secondary education.”

Ms. Atuhaire commended FAWE for its efforts, urging the beneficiaries to focus on academic success.

“I am thrilled to see these 15 girls, who had lost hope, now returning to school with zero fees balance,” Ms. Atuhaire said. “I call upon Ugandans to join hands with FAWE to ensure the 20k campaign continues generating funds to keep girls in school.”

Ms. Tumusime shared a poignant story of a young lady from Karamoja who scored well in P7 but lacked funds to pursue secondary education, highlighting the urgent need for support.

The beneficiaries, all in candidate classes, will receive financial assistance to sit their national exams and transition to the next level.

FAWE Uganda’s alumni have also pledged support, donating UGX 3.8 million and an additional UGX 200,000 during the ceremony.
