Government Declares Wednesday a Public Holiday

The Government of Uganda , through the Ministry of Public Service, has declared Wednesday 10th April 2024, the date at which Muslims are going to celebrate Eid El Fitr as a Public holiday.

According to the official statement released on Monday afternoon, signed by Catherine Bitarakwate Musingwiire, the Permanent Secretary of Public service ministry addressed to Permanent Secretary Ministry of Information, Communication Technology & National Guidance, the day is going to be observed country wide.

“This is to request you to relay the following announcement on Uganda Broadcasting Corporation Network and all media houses in the country: The Honorable Minister of Public Service informs the general public that tomorrow 10th April 2024 is Eid el Fitr and will be observed as a Public Holiday throughout Uganda pursuant to the Public Holidays Act, 1965.” Reads part of the letter

The same has been copied to Minister of Public Service, Head of Public Service & Secretary to Cabinet, Permanent Secretary, Office of the Prime Minister, H.E the Mufti of Uganda, Uganda Muslim Supreme Council , Executive Director, Uganda Media Center and the Chief News Editor, Uganda Broadcasting Corporation.

Eid El fitr was expected to be celebrated on Tuesday 9th April 2024, however the moon was not sighted and it was post poned to Wednesday.
