KAMPALA, Uganda, June 11, 2025 — Uganda will temporarily suspend its Automated Express Penalty System (EPS Auto) effective midnight tonight, following a comprehensive review, authorities announced Wednesday.
Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, the minister of works and transport, will deliver a detailed statement Thursday, June 12, outlining the reasons for the suspension and the path forward, according to an official post on X.
The EPS Auto system, intended to boost road safety through automated detection and penalization of traffic violations, has sparked controversy since its launch. Critics have cited technical issues, inadequate public education, and concerns over equitable enforcement.
Officials urged drivers to continue observing traffic laws and driving responsibly during the suspension.
Further details are expected following Wamala’s address.
