Kabale University’s Professor Basheka appointed to head Uganda’s country office of the African Supply Chain Institute

Professor Benon C Basheka, a lecturer at Kabale University, South West of the country has been appointed to be the coordinating country head for the African Institute for Supply chain Research.

This appointment early this month by the President and CEO of the African Institute Supply chain Research as well as the Vice President for East Africa.

The Institute was established in 2018 with a mission of being a center of excellence in supply chain management research in Africa. The establishment of the institute was motivated by the fact that globally, research into the supply chain has received great interest across industry, government, and the research community. However, with the African continent, it remains under-researched and at the moment, only a few universities on the continent offer supply chain degrees.

The appointment of professor Basheka is a demonstration of his professional standing in procurement and supply chain management. Professor Basheka is a fellow (FCIPS) of the Charted Institute of Procurement and Supply (UK). He represented the African continent at the CIPS congress in London for three years from 2013 to 2016. He has also in his academic career undertaken research works in procurement. His publications are widely used by students and practitioners undertaking procurement and supply chain management training and research.

At Kabale University, Professor Basheka lectures on the Procurement specialization of the MBA Programme. The University also offers a Bachelor’s Degree in Procurement and Logistics Management and this professional recognition of his appointment will significantly benefit both graduate and undergraduate students in this field of study. The students are encouraged to be members of the institute and should regularly check the institute’s website for cutting edge research.

At the time when he pursued the charted institute of purchasing and supply, Basheka emerged as the third best student in Africa for that year. This demonstrates his longstanding interest in procurement and supply chain management. Details about the institute can be found at the Institute’s website at: https://www.aiscr.org.za/. As a university, we congratulate our colleague for this important recognition which increases his standing as an individual but also scales the image of the university among the supply chain management professionals on the continent. We wish him the best in this role.
