KASESE — A good number of households have been rendered homeless after after two rivers including River Nyamwamba in Kasese and River Lamia in Bindibugyo burst their banks, according to the Uganda Red Cross.

“River Nyamwamba in Kasese burst its banks in the wee hours. A good number of households affected, ” Irene Nakasiita, Uganda Red Cross spokesperson said.

She added: River Lamia too from (from Mountain Rwenzori) in Bundibugyo has burst its banks.”

Heavy rainfall in recent days has led to flooding across the region.

Farmers in the affected regions are as well counting losses after their crops were swept away by the ravaging floods.

Nakasiita said Red Cross teams are out conducting rapid assessment.

“We can share details when we receive reports on number of families affected, the support they require and immediate needs,” she told PML Daily
