KAMPALA, Uganda – The highly publicized trial in the murder of businessman Henry Katanga resumes today at the High Court in Kampala.
Presiding Judge Isaac Muwata last week adjourned the proceedings to today, November 19th, following a brief suspension.
The widow, Molly Katanga, her two daughters, the family shamba boy and a medical are standing trial.
The prosecution is presenting the 10th witness, AIP Enock Kanene, a cybercrime analyst, whose testimony is already under dispute.
The defense had requested access to raw data, including digital evidence, ahead of Kanene’s testimony.
Justice Muwata ordered the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to provide all raw data, including CCTV footage and mobile phone records, citing the constitutional requirement for full disclosure of evidence.
“The principle of a fair trial must be upheld,” Justice Muwata emphasized, stressing the prosecution’s duty to disclose all relevant materials.
The defense will challenge the prosecution’s evidence using the provided data.
Ms. Molly Katanga, is standing trial, after she was charged with murder of her husband Henry Katanga, who was found dead from their family home in Mbuya on November 2 last year.
However, she was herself found critically injured and in a vegetative state on the fateful morning, and has been attending the hearing from Luzira prison via video link, as she recovers from massive injuries from the brawl.
She is jointly charged with her two daughters Patricia Kakwanzi and Martha Nkwanzi as well as the family’s domestic servant George Amanyire and a nurse Charles Otai.
They have all denied the charges.
