KAMPALA, UGANDA – The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has summoned the Assistant Project Manager of the Special Forces Command Construction Regiment (SFCCR), Lt. Eng. Kikomeko Kigongo, to appear before the City Executive Committee.

The summon comes after President Museveni directed the SFC to take over road maintenance in Kampala in May 2023, with a contract worth UGX 2.1 billion to repair approximately 3 kilometers of potholes and sections within the city.

However, according to Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, the SFC has failed to meet KCCA standards, leaving many roads in disrepair. Lukwago has summoned Eng. Kigongo to appear before a special council meeting on May 29, 2024, at City Hall to present accounts for funds received, contract documents, and scope of work.

The Lord Mayor has also commended the government for increasing KCCA’s budget allocation for the 2024/2025 financial year to UGX 1.134 trillion, challenging the technical team to utilize it effectively for Kampala’s social and economic development.

The meeting on May 29 is expected to shed light on the matter and ensure that the SFC meets its obligations to maintain Kampala’s roads to the required standards.”
