Merck Foundation Marks World Hypertension Day with 760 Scholarships for Future Cardiovascular, Diabetes, and Endocrinology Experts

Merck Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Merck KGaA Germany, has marked World Hypertension Day by providing 760 scholarships to doctors from 52 countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. These scholarships are part of the total 1810 scholarships provided by Merck Foundation to doctors in 42 critical and underserved medical specialties.

The scholarships, which include one-year Post-Graduate Diploma and two-year Master Degree in Preventative Cardiovascular Medicine, Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Obesity and Weight Management, aim to improve access to quality and equitable healthcare in underserved communities.

Merck Foundation has also released two animation films, “Mark’s Pressure” and “Sugar Free Jude”, to raise awareness about early detection and prevention of hypertension and diabetes among children and youth.

In addition, Merck Foundation has launched four awards for media, fashion designers, filmmakers, musicians, and singers to promote a healthy lifestyle and raise awareness about prevention and early detection of diabetes and hypertension.

These initiatives are part of Merck Foundation’s commitment to improving health and wellbeing in underserved communities and advancing lives through science and technology.

Senator, Dr. Rasha Kelej, CEO of Merck Foundation, emphasized the importance of improving access to quality and equitable healthcare, particularly in underserved communities. “We are committed to providing scholarships and awards to deserving doctors and creatives to promote a healthy lifestyle and raise awareness about prevention and early detection of diabetes and hypertension,” she said.

The scholarships and awards are open to applicants from Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Entries can be submitted via email to submit@merck-foundation.com. The deadline for submission is October 30, 2024.
