Luuka, Uganda – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has praised the impact of the Parish Development Model (PDM) in Luuka district, citing it as a shining example of the initiative’s potential to transform livelihoods.

During a visit to Luuka, President Museveni awarded UGX26 million to local farmers, who have benefited from the PDM program. The President’s donation aimed to boost the farmers’ efforts to improve their socio-economic well-being.

“I am very happy to see that people are waking up and taking advantage of the opportunities presented by the PDM,” President Museveni said. “This program is designed to help our people move away from subsistence farming and into more commercialized and profitable agricultural practices.”

The President’s comments were echoed by the Minister for Presidency, Babirye Milly Babalanda, who welcomed President Museveni to Luuka and hailed the PDM program as a game-changer for rural communities.

“The PDM is a critical component of our efforts to eradicate poverty and promote economic development in rural areas,” Minister Babalanda said. “We are committed to supporting our people as they work to improve their lives and livelihoods.”

Capt. Mike Mukula, a renowned entrepreneur and farmer, also praised the PDM initiative, citing its potential to empower rural communities and promote economic growth.

“The PDM is a well-thought-out program that has the potential to transform the lives of our people,” Capt. Mukula said. “I commend the President and the government for their efforts to promote economic development and poverty eradication in rural areas.”

The PDM program, which was launched in 2022, aims to promote economic development and poverty eradication in rural areas by providing financial support and technical guidance to farmers and entrepreneurs.

In Luuka district, the PDM program has already benefited over 217 farmers, who have received financial support and training in modern agricultural practices.

One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Mukasa Eliot, a farmer from Buwanda village, Nawampiti sub-county, praised the PDM program for transforming his life.

“I received UGX1 million from the PDM program, which I used to start a passion fruit farm,” Mr. Mukasa said. “Today, I am proud to say that I have improved my socio-economic well-being and I am able to support my family.”

The Resident District Commissioner for Luuka, Mr. Katende Ronald Kinene, commended the President for his support for the PDM program and praised the initiative’s impact on rural communities.

“We are grateful for the President’s support for the PDM program, which has already started to bear fruit in our district,” Mr. Katende said. “We are committed to working with our people to ensure that the program achieves its intended objectives.”
