KAMPALA, UGANDA – Six Ugandan startups have been selected to receive a total of $28 million in funding through the UK-funded Climate Finance Accelerator Uganda (CFA), marking a significant investment in the country’s climate resilience efforts.

The selected startups are working on innovative projects in waste management, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and eco-friendly transportation. Ecobrixs, one of the beneficiaries, recycles plastic waste into reusable PET flakes. Its founder hailed the funding as a game-changer for scaling operations and making a real impact on Uganda’s climate landscape.

The six startups were chosen from over 140 applicants and will receive tailored support from local and international experts to enhance their investment potential. “The CFA Uganda program is committed to empowering Ugandan entrepreneurs to drive climate action,” said Amanda Kabagambe, Managing Director of Bethel Advisors, implementing partner of CFA Uganda.

The funding is part of the UK government’s efforts to support climate action globally, facilitating access to finance and helping countries achieve climate targets under the Paris Agreement. This investment will support Uganda’s Nationally Determined Contribution goals, tackling climate change, and promoting sustainable development.

The selected startups include Agrosahas International Private Limited, which focuses on organic-focused agritech; Bukona Agro Processors Limited, specializing in clean cooking; CO2 Balance UK Limited, rehabilitating non-functional boreholes; Ebee Uganda, offering electric bicycle sales and rental; Ecobrixs, recycling plastic waste; and Ecoplastile Limited, providing integrated waste management.

This funding milestone underscores Uganda’s growing reputation as a hub for climate innovation and entrepreneurship.

“The UK government is proud to support Uganda’s climate resilience efforts through the CFA program,” said Philip Smith, Chargé d’Affaires at the British High Commission in Kampala. “We believe that Ugandan entrepreneurs hold the key to unlocking innovative climate solutions.”

With this investment, Uganda takes another step towards achieving its climate goals and promoting sustainable development. The CFA Uganda program will continue to support Ugandan startups in their quest to address climate change.
