Stakeholders in the education sector who send students abroad to pursue education are concerned about the untrustworthy people in this sector.
Stephen Bwete, the founder of Kirooto consults, a study abroad company based in Berlin-Germany, said this can be addressed if parents/guardians who would send their children to study abroad seek proper guidance from only genuine and licensed companies.
On September Saturday 14th, 2024 Kirooto consults and affordable study consults held a conference at Fairway hotel in Kampala where they engaged Ugandans, in particulars students and parents about available opportunities to study abroad.
In the conference, the two companies tipped participants not only available opportunities but also on being vigilant so as to avoid falling in the trap of people who are not trustworthy.
‘’The challenge we do get also are people that are in this industry that are not truthful and that are not giving proper guidance and information to students, and this spoil the work of so many other trust trustworthy and professionals, because, like myself, we are trained. We do belong to organizations like ICEF, which are internationally known organizations that do verify and control our work, whatever we do’’, Said Bwete.
‘’I think it starts with the applicants or the potential students or parents, always to do their research, even what I tell you, I always ask you to go back and verify, make sure that you do your due diligence, read the information that the person is presumably pretending to be the guidance or the counselor is giving you, verify and go Do your double check if they give you information about the particular university or a particular program research about this, and then compare and say, Is this true, what they are giving me in some cases, also, you can reach out even to some of these institutions to verify that information or ask them, Are you connected to this presumable agency or consultant. If they are not connected to this person, they will tell you. He added.
The second way, I think, to avoid this is also to look for the credibility or the credentials of the person who is guiding you. Most cases, when you go to this person, you have a right to ask them, Who are you working with and what makes you qualified to guide me, and have you been to that country, the place that you’re sending my son or my daughter to? What is your experience? Or are there students that you have sent to that country? And can you, can you tell me the experience? Or can I talk to one or two of them to know their experience? So this will help you to be informed and also to save yourself or your family member from being misguided or misled into us a dubious place that might not be desirable. he further noted.
“We are here with affordable study consults, which assist students from Uganda to pursue their studies abroad. We help students to study abroad, ranging from cheap, affordable destinations to very expensive destinations. So what happens? Students will come to us. Will tell us what they have studied. They will tell us about their dreams, what their career dreams are, their budgets, and then we’ll help them to find exactly that that fits within their means”. He noted.
We have universities from the US, from Canada, from Australia, from Dubai, from South Korea, from India, Cyprus, and Germany and so on that we are here to talk to you, to guide you and to help you to make that decision. The main reason we are here is also to tell you that studying abroad is not as expensive as you think, but you need to write to find the right guidance, the right person to assist you to give the information that will make you be aware of the options and the benefits available. Mr Bwete added
“Germany is an interesting country to many of the students we’ve been speaking to, they are not aware that you can study at a public university in Germany for free. Why? Because German taxpayers pay a lot of money towards funding education”. he said
According to him, there are two options. Students from Uganda can study at a university which is free of tuition. But they can also do vocational training program.
He noted that students can pursue a vocational training which is an on job training program.
“Vocational students need B2 Germany language. So if you choose to study at a public university, you need to learn the German language level. if you don’t have the language requirement, we help you to find the schools that will give you that language level to equip you with the skills that you need. And also, we will help you with the universities and the schools that will help you as well to get to the vocational or to the universities. He added
“Personally, I’ve been living in Germany for about 17 years, and within the last probably 10 years of my professional practice, I’ve assisted over 240 students that have gone to Germany. But these are direct support. There are also so many people that I give information, so many people that I just send information, and they do it on their own.
